The Wailua River
On
your way to the Wailua Hideaway vacation home, you'll pass Opaeka`a Falls and
the Wailua River scenic overlook. Wailua Falls is another spectacular spot just
a short drive from the Wailua Hideaway.
The Wailua River is one of the most famous and traveled rivers in the State of Hawaii. A beautiful kayak trip up the Wailua River and a short hike will bring you to the stunning Ulu`Wehi Falls, more commonly known as "Secret Falls". Standing at approximately 120 feet, Secret Falls is a sight to be seen and the perfect backdrop for Picnics, photos and fun!
Or, if you'd prefer, you can see the Wailua River by motorized boat. Several tour companies offer hourly tours up the Wailua River to the famous Fern Grotto. Tours include Hawaiian entertainment by local musicians and hula dancers.

Kamokila Hawaiian Village
Just past the Opaekaa Falls scenic overlook you'll see the Kamokila Hawaiian Village sign to your left. The village is located on the Wailua River and offers cultural village tours, outrigger canoe rides, hiking and swimming tours as well as a location for hosting Luaus and weddings. Kauai's Hindu Monastery, Wailua
Set amongst the lush tropical landscape of Wailua is the Kauai Hindu Monastery, a South-Indian style monastery-temple complex. Two traditional Saivite Hindu temples are located on the monastery's 458 acres, Kadavul Temple and the new San Marga Iraivan Temple, a massive white granite Chola-style temple currently being carved in Bangalore, India, and whose stones are now being shipped and assembled on Kauai. Keahua Arboretum, Wailua
A 30-acre natural playground is endowed with bubbling streams, inviting pools, emerald-green forests and lush meadows. This is a great place for a picnic under the monkeypod, mango and fragrant eucalyptus trees. Picnics tables and pavilions are scattered throughout the area. The Keahua Arboretum is located just minutes up Kuamoo Road (580) from the Wailua Hideaway Vacation Rental. The road beyond the arboretum eventually leads to the Blue Hole at the base of Mt. Wai`ale`ale's crater. Here waterfalls, fed by the mountain's prestigious rainfall of 476 inches per year, converge in one of nature's most lavish settings. Numerous hiking trails such as the Kuilau Ridge Trail and Powerline Trail, start or pass by the arboretum. Several tour groups provide guided hikes and off-roading opportunities in this area.
